Modeling and Experimental Evaluation of Z-Source Modular Multilevel Converter Using Reduced Inserted Cells Technique

The integration of a Z-source network with modular multilevel converter (MMC) to provide voltage step-up function is proposed in this paper. (ZS-MMC) uses connected between the DC source and DC-link terminals MMC. operation principle ZS-MMC presented utilising reduced inserted cells (RICs) modulation technique. Compared quasi previously developed by authors, has small fundamental frequency component ZS inductor current which requires smaller size for also more efficient. compared other topologies that can accomplish buck boost capabilities, such as MMC, cascaded full-bridge based validate viability converter. employing RICs technique confirmed experimentally.
